This week’s Tech Roundup includes FTP programs for Windows, browser trends, and WordPress contact forms.
The Best FTP App for Windows – This is a really great review of FileZilla. It also covers Cyberduck, WinSCP, and FireFTP. If you are on Windows and in the market for a new FTP client, this is a good read for you. I’ve used all but Cyberduck and would say I use WinSCP the most, with FileZilla coming in second. I prefer the simplicity of WinSCP.
Browser Trends September 2011: Can Anyone Stop Chrome? – In my August 12 Tech Roundup I covered the browser stats for July 2011. These are the stats for August. Chrome is still gaining on Firefox for the #2 spot. IE6 is still falling (yay!). These are important stats to watch if you make websites.
20 Free Contact Form Plugins for WordPress – Every website needs a contact form of some kind and there are a lot of WordPress contact form plugins out there. This is a list of 20 good plugins to help you narrow your search.
Using ‘$’ instead of ‘jQuery’ in WordPress – Great little tutorial on how to use $ instead of jQuery in WordPress. Those of you that use jQuery in your WordPress themes are probably familiar with this issue. This little trick will get you back using $ if you want.
I’m doing a big, very overdue upgrade on my desktop this weekend. And, I’m finally upgrading to Windows 7 as part of the process. I want to be able to take advantage of the 8GB RAM I got! It will essentially be a kick-ass gaming machine but really just a powerful design/development machine. I might even document the upgrade with some photos and notes if I get ambitious, but don’t hold your breath. :)
If you enjoy these Roundups please share with your friends!
Have a great weekend!
